The Good: >> Fiercely Loyal- his training at the academy is still ingrained in his brain, leave no man behind. If you befriend Zap, be ready for a life long friend. >> Strategic- Zap thinks in a very tactical manner. His strategic problem solving skills, make for a quick witted mind. This is enhanced by his time spent in the dome. >> Calm- the ability to remain calm during times of urgency or panic is one of Zap's greatest qualities, and he very proud of it. Being used to receiving commands, Zap is learning how important his calmness really is. >> Integrity- if Zap says he's going to do something, he's going to do it. If he is given a task, he will do it, exactly the way he was told to do so.
The Bad: << Cold- this ex-police dog can come off as cold and cruel, however once he came to, he couldn't turn off the "working dog" part of his brain. To Zap, he's still on duty and in the field. << Crass- Zap will tell you like it is. He has no ill intentions, however he does not sugar coat things nor will he baby you if he hurts your feelings. << Vain- he sees himself highly, Zap. And boy does it show. He believes he is better than most, and isn't afraid to tell others so. << Vulgar- the things that come out of Zap's mouth can be quite atrocious, often making others walk away from conversation with him. The filter between brain and mouth vanished after his last "job" with Zack. Unfortunately, Zap is quite unaware of this.
History
Before: Things were going well for Zap, the academy had recently began training for the season and he was on a streak. His handler Zack, was so proud of him that he got a rawhide chew from the market on the way home. Outside of the academy, Zap was a pretty relaxed guy, he knew how to keep his cool and never barked at the mail man or the ice cream truck that drove through his neighborhood every weekend. But then, there was one day, Zap woke up with a strange tingle in his gut that just wouldn't go away. His nerves wouldn't allow him to eat, as his food bowl still had that crunchy kibble in it, he felt a jolt of static panic radiate from the living room. Trotting in he stopped at the hallway to see Zack and his lady friend staring blanky at the tv box. He couldn't understand what they were so worried about, but he could tell the tone of the tv box man's voice was shaky and it too, full of panic. That when Zack's phone rang, "Yes sir. No sir. Absolutely sir, I'm on my way." his eyes landing on Zap, "Gear up Zap, we've got duty." Zap's paws tingled with a cocktail of excitement, curiosity, and fright. Watching Zack gather gear and mumble something about the panic spreading quicker than he could get ready, finally he turned to Zap and waved the harness and muzzle in the air. Dancing on his toes, Zap's brain shifted from home-dog to work-dog; wriggling into his gear, and heart pumping, Zap was ready for today's mission. On the ride to their job site, Zap felt the panic and confusion in the air. It made his hair feel prickly, like the way he felt on his first day of training. People and their soft pets ran to and fro, trying to gather their wits. Finally the truck stopped abruptly, and Zack got out, as he went to get the door for Zap, his phone rang again. "I'm currently here, sir. no-no, I just arrived, getting Zap out." and then click! His phone must have died because Zack's face wrinkled and he tucked it back into his pocket. He didn't even bother getting Zap's leash, just opening the door and waving him on. A man with a clean shaven face and bald head greeted the pair at the door, spoke urgently and rushed down a hallway. Something about going into the "dome" and how it could be dangerous. Zap heard the words, "He may not be ready yet sir." with a worried undertone. Fear. Fear is what Zack smelled like the last time Zap was with his beloved handler.
After: Zap had no idea what had happened. Nor where he was. His body felt different and his senses were heightened. The Belgian could feel his heartbeat in his toes and his brain seemed to process things a lot faster. Still equipped with his gear, Zap gathered himself and assessed the situation. There was little to no sound, and very few smells to be smelled.
